SCM is at the core of our business. All HelloFresh processes rely on SCM Tech to operate. We manage contracts with our suppliers, place orders, control the receipt of goods, handle inventory, keep track of the box labeling and production, and keep a close connection with different areas of the company, from Finance to Operations. The role
In this role, you will join as an Engineering Manager (Squad Lead) on our Supply Chain Management teams. If you are not familiar with SCM you can read more about it here.
The Engineering Manager on the SCM Alliance is the team’s representative in all forums. You will act on behalf of the team and always try to find the best possible solution to any given challenge the team might face. Our Squad Leads are experienced engineers with a solid technical background that care deeply about their team first, and about their products. In a nutshell, the core values that we are looking for are good communication skills, a good understanding of ways of working, technical expertise, relevant working experience, and team-building capabilities. What you’ll do
- As an Engineering Manager, you will be actively contributing to the codebase and managing a cross-functional team of engineers.
- You will take care of different products and services together with your team.
- You will be responsible for keeping your team healthy and effective. Make sure that tech debt is defined and actively addressed, quality standards are followed, and best practices are followed.
- You’ll enable quick and accurate decision-making within the team by facilitating discussions, as well as driving the team to be more autonomous and self-sufficient.
- You will coach, mentor, and further grow and develop engineers on your team. You are comfortable helping your team grow in different areas, size, responsibilities, scope and others.
- As the manager of the team, you are expected to provide valuable and timely feedback to your team, as well as conduct regular performance reviews.
- You will be reporting directly to a Director of Engineering and you will be working closely with them on topics as hiring and capacity planning.
What you’ll bring
- You are an experienced software engineer who still contributes to the code, but also maintains an awareness of the bigger picture.
- You have experience managing at least one cross-functional team in an agile environment (3+ Engineers).
- You have practical experience in at least one of the following languages: Golang, Java/Kotlin. You can use creativity to solve complex problems.
- You are familiar with Docker and k8s
- You know about relational and document databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL and MongoDB
- You have a deep understanding of event-driven architectures using RabbitMQ and/or Kafka.
- You have experience with microservice architecture
- You have a great understanding and working knowledge of building scalable and microservices.
- You have the ability to communicate clearly, listen and show empathy.
- You are a self-organized individual, with the focus and the ability to prioritize your workload using business data and metrics.
- You have an understanding on how to keep a service or product healthy: both from a business point of view as well as operational.
- You are comfortable representing your team in both technical and business-oriented forums.
- You are a humble leader, who is able to motivate a team and drive them to their full potential.
- You know how to delegate and nurture the career of the engineers in your team
